Greenville, Sinoe County – Civil society groups in Sinoe County in collaboration with UNMIL and Government agencies on Thursday, December 10, 2015 observed World Human Rights Day in collaboration with the climax of 16th Days of Activism against Gender Based Violence Campaign.
The occasion brought together women groups, youth, health workers, and representatives from UNMIL Civil Affairs; others included officials of government and ordinary citizens and residents gracing the occasion in Kabada, Kpanyan District, Sinoe County.
Meanwhile, keynote speaker Zoe Kiawoin who is the focus person for MOH/SGBV in Sinoe said parents and family members should stop compromising rape cases adding that this will help eliminate the crime of rape in society.
Madam Kiawoin stressed that perpetrator of rape should not go free which is the best weapon to fighting Gender Based Violence.
For her part, The Representative of Cross Bolder Women in Greenville, Sinoe County urged parents to focus on educating their girls’ children. Madam Nora Sarh said an educated girl child will not be vulnerable to sexual Gender Based Violence and will be respected by all in the society.
She further mentioned that the education of a girl child is most important then early marriage which she described as a factor that is damaging the future of the child.
Madam Sarh is therefore calling on parents of girl children to do everything in their reach to have their girl children educated.
The Cross Bolder Women Representative in Greenville is also urging men to respect the rights of women and avoid violence against women and girls. She added that women are not men’s bases drum to beat on or slaves rather men’s help mate in relationship.
