Claim
US Ambassador to Liberia claimed that over US$65 million was allocated in the 2022 Budget for the Legislature.
Rating Justification
Local Voices Liberia Iverify team did check the US Ambassador statement about the Liberian legislature allocating “over US$ 65 million for salaries and operations” and found it to be slightly incorrect.
To arrive at this conclusion, we reviewed the 2022 National Budget which contains all allocations to all sectors of the government.
The allocation made for salaries and operations of the Liberian Legislature in the 2022 National Budget is a little over US$ 64.3 million and not over US$65 million as claimed by US Ambassador Michael McCarthy.
The amount allocated in budget for the Liberian Legislature is US$64, 383, 290. This amount is further broken down into different budget line items under the same legislature in the 2022 National Budget.
Therefore, we concluded that the figure mentioned by the US Ambassador is incorrect.
