Phebe Hospital Closes For Four Days As Covid-19 Cases Increase in Bong County

Bong County – The Administration of Phebe Referral Hospital in Suakoko District, Bong County has shut down the entire hospital for 90 hours due to the increased number of confirmed COVID-19 cases at the facility, said Adolphus Yeiah, Bong County Health Officer.

Speaking to journalists on Friday June 26, in Gbarnga, Dr. Yeiah said the decision was made after 14 health workers of the hospital tested positive for COVID-19.

Dr. Yeiah told reporters that they were advised by a team from the Incident Management System headed by Dr. Samson Arzoaquoio to close the hospital.

Recently, the hospital temporarily closed its emergency room to the public after three nurses contracted the virus.

On Wednesday June 24, Bong County Surveillance Officer, Emmanuel Dweah confirmed that the Medical Director of the hospital, Dr. Jefferson Sibley had tested positive for COVID-19 along with seven nurses assigned in emergency Room.

Dweah said the patients were in a “mini isolation room at the Phebe Hospital and were undergoing treatment.”

And in a telephone interview Friday, June 26 with Phebe Hospital’s communications director, Samuel Kplaiwru, he said the hospital will remain closed for 90 hours for the facility to be disinfected.

Mr. Kplaiwru urged people not to panic as they are doing all they can to reopen the facility which is one of the major referral hospitals in central Liberia.
